After he turned 45, Bill Sycalik did what many management consultants dream about doing — he quit his New York City job and went into the wild. “I packed up my things, stored everything at my brother’s house in Pennsylvania, and I started running the National Parks,†says Sycalik. In his 2008 Subaru Impreza, Sycalik drove across the country with the goal of running a self-guided marathon in all 59 National Parks. Already he’s completed 46, running along the base of a volcano at Mount Rainier National Park, through a herd of pronghorn at Wind Cave, and nearly getting lost in the desert at Guadalupe Mountains. He plans to finish running the parks in September of 2018, ending in Alaska.Â
